The Seattle Post-Intelligencer’s Big Blog recently asked readers to sound off about the most off-putting behavior they experience in the café environment. The ensuing list, titled “10 Annoying Things People Do at Coffee Shops,” will be familiar territory to anyone who spends all day behind an espresso machine. Most of the entries focus on irritating customer activities shop owners know all too well—loud cell-phone chats and children roaming unsupervised, for example. But shop employees get their fair share of criticism too. Snobby attitudes from behind the bar and misremembered drink orders remain common complaints from the patrons who keep shops alive. Let this be a reminder to treat customers well, even if their stupid cell-phone calls make you want to scream.
